Chapter 65 – Are You Crazy?

Wen Yu sat in her original position, lost in thought.

After coming to the conclusion of “love,” Wen Yu felt like she could explain all of Wen Zhihan’s past behaviors.

Because Wen Zhihan loved Shao Cixin, she was the first person to show up to the hospital, and she was most devastated by the accident.

Because Wen Zhihan loved Shao Cixin, she hit Wen Yu for the first time and blamed her for not being a good wife.

Wen Yu: I see…

So her older sister had been coveting her wife for a long time…

Thinking of this, Wen Yu couldn’t help but frown again.

When did Wen Zhihan fall in love with Shao Cixin?

Was it after Wen Yu’s marriage? No, Wen Zhihan was not the kind of person who would fall in love with a married woman.

It must be before Wen Yu and Shao Cixin’s marriage.

But Wen Yu couldn’t understand this.

If Wen Zhihan liked Shao Cixin before Shao Cixin married Wen Yu, then why did she force Wen Yu to marry Shao Cixin?

Even a fool would know what decision to make in this situation, right?

What kind of medicine was Wen Zhihan selling in her gourd[1]?

Wen Yu thought for a long time but couldn’t figure out the reason.

She eventually concluded that she could only obtain the answer by asking the person herself.

Amid her jumbled thoughts, an ID came up on her phone screen.

It read, “Jiahe.”

Jiahe, the name of the person she used to covet as much as she wanted—but now she didn’t want to see the person attached to this name at all.

She raised her finger and rejected the call.

She didn’t want to repeat the emotional torture of her previous life again.

When she thought about how much she hurt Shao Cixin for such a person, she felt regret and discomfort.

Wen Yu, you were really blind in your last life…

She reluctantly put an end to her thoughts, raised her eyes, and focused her attention on the screen once again.

Now she could do nothing but sit and watch.

In the live broadcast room, Wen Zhihan held her head up with an arm and gazed at the person next to her with a carefree expression.

Shao Cixin was enthusiastically helping the audience broadcast their questions to Wen Zhihan.

“Mrs. Shao, am I your ideal type?”

Shao Cixin’s eyes were bright, and she looked at Wen Zhihan intently.

At this moment, she wanted to send the audience member who asked this question a hundred likes.

It was a good question, keep asking more!

Help her ask about Wen Zhihan’s ideal type and her criteria for choosing a wife!

Her happiness depended entirely on the grandfathers in the audience!

When Wen Zhihan heard this question, she couldn’t help but stare at Shao Cixin.

Actually, she never thought she would fall in love with Shao Cixin.

When they were in high school, Shao Cixin would occasionally violate the school rules, leaving a glorious history in Wen Zhihan’s notebook.

It stood to reason that Wen Zhihan would not like such a rebellious person, someone who refused to change despite receiving repeated admonitions.

But her feelings were uncontrollable, and she still fell for Shao Cixin.

Wen Zhihan didn’t know when she fell in love with the person in front of her.

Maybe it was when Shao Cixin gave her chocolates for the first time, or maybe it was when Shao Cixin would calm down and patiently comfort her, or maybe it was when Shao Cixin laughed…

There were too many beautiful moments—too many for Wen Zhihan to identify.

The only thing Wen Zhihan could be sure of was the moment she discovered her feelings, and the fact that they’ve lingered into the present day.

So the concept of an “ideal” type…she didn’t have one.

She never even thought about the criteria for choosing a partner.

But she couldn’t deny that Shao Cixin’s existence materialized her other half.

Because Wen Zhihan liked Shao Cixin, every trait that she found attractive belonged to this person.

“Yes.” Wen Zhihan ran her fingers through her long hair and looked at Shao Cixin. “I like beautiful, interesting, and unique people.”

Shao Cixin held her face in her hands and said casually, “What if I’m not that type of person?”

Wen Zhihan smiled. “Then I’ll change my ideal type to one that matches you.”

Her answer was flawless and sweet.

Shao Cixin paused for a moment.

She didn’t know why, but she felt that every word Wen Zhihan said was directed at her.

Like she was no longer acting but making a sincere confession.

But after this idea came into her mind, Shao Cixin immediately returned to her senses. She blinked her eyes and looked at Wen Zhihan. Then she couldn’t help but exclaim in her heart—

…God, what was she thinking? Wen Zhihan was obviously just acting, how could she reach this level of narcissism?!

Meanwhile, the comment section had gone crazy.

—It’s too sweet, it’s too sweet. Please give me more, please give me more, I can take it!

—President Wen is so gentle when she looks at Xin Xin. Who dares to say that this is not love!

—She is a master at sweet-talking! I’m going to note it down in my notebook, and I will definitely get a girlfriend!

—You two should be more mushy to each other! I don’t lack mobile data!

Wen Zhihan’s fingertips fell on Shao Cixin’s face.

Her gentle gaze tangled with Shao Cixin’s, unwilling to leave, as if asking, “What’s wrong with you?”

Shao Cixin reacted quickly. She immediately leaned in to kiss Wen Zhihan.

Afterward, she said, “That’s very well put. Mrs. Shao, please say another sentence.”

Wen Zhihan asked, “What does Cixin want to hear?

Shao Cixin said, “Something good.”

Wen Zhihan followed Shao Cixin’s advice. “My beautiful Mrs. Wen.”

Shao Cixin’s eyes curved. “Hmm~ This is good!”

—What? Praising her beauty is enough? Hello, I am the leader of the praising chat group!

—What’s important is not the “beautiful” part, but the beautiful “Mrs. Wen” part.

—I feel like if she had a tail, she would be wagging it up to the sky!

—Quick, bring my insulin! I can still take more of this sweetness!!

Shao Cixin and Wen Zhihan cooperated tacitly, and the live broadcast went very smoothly.

The production team felt relieved when they saw that all the live broadcast rooms were extremely harmonious.

—Good. Please produce as much dog food as you like. The sweeter, the better!

The live broadcasts came to an end.

The guests bid farewell to their audiences and went offline.

They took off their makeup and changed into their original clothes, then said goodbye to the production team and went home.

Shao Cixin sat in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.

While looking ahead, she suddenly remembered what happened in the live broadcast room just now and couldn’t help but secretly glance at Wen Zhihan.

She felt anxious, and she wanted to ask some questions.

She wanted to ask whether Wen Zhihan’s ideal type was real or made up.

Did she really like beautiful, interesting, and unique people over those who were gentle and quiet?

Wen Zhihan caught Shao Cixin’s secretive glance. Seeing that she opened her mouth to speak but hesitated, Wen Zhihan asked directly, “Cixin, do you have anything to say to me?”

The opportunity was handed to her, and Shao Cixin had no reason to refuse.

She faced Wen Zhihan and asked openly, “I’m just curious about one thing. Were you speaking the truth when you were talking about your ideal type on the broadcast?”

Wen Zhihan held the steering wheel with one hand and wasn’t in a hurry to start the car. Instead, she turned her head to meet Shao Cixin’s gaze, trying to decipher her expression.

Why was Shao Cixin suddenly asking this question?

Were personal feelings involved?

Shao Cixin mistakenly thought that Wen Zhihan was doubting her and scrutinizing her intentions, so she immediately pushed Rong Ya out as a shield.

“Because I didn’t have an answer when Rong jie told me in the past that you seemed to prefer quiet people, so after I heard you say that you liked interesting people, I became a little curious.”

Wen Zhihan: “…”

It turned out that there were no personal feelings at all.

She was once again searching in vain…

Wen Zhihan smiled, hiding the helplessness in her heart.

Fearing that Shao Cixin would misunderstand and think she liked someone else, Wen Zhihan said, “Cixin, I am already a very quiet person, I don’t need to find someone else like me.”

Shao Cixin raised her eyebrows in understanding.

Wen Zhihan liked people who were lively, cheerful, and interesting.

What a coincidence. Wasn’t it perfect? She, Shao Cixin, was exactly this type of person!

Shao Cixin, if you worked harder, you could definitely get Wen Zhihan to say your name after the word “like!”

After returning home, Shao Cixin placed a pot of flowers in Wen Zhihan’s study.

She said cheerfully, “You can take a look at it whenever you’re tired from work, and it’ll help you improve your mood.

“Leave the care to me. To tell you the truth, I have some skill in this area.”

After quitting the entertainment industry and getting married in her previous life, she often followed Jeanne around learning how to grow flowers. To her, taking care of a single pot was no problem at all.

The most important thing was to make Wen Zhihan think of her whenever she saw the flowers.

This was the subtlety of love.

Wen Zhihan looked at the small pot of delicate and pink flowers. Then she turned to gaze at the person standing beside her with bright eyes. She smiled lightly and nodded. “Then I’ll trouble our beautiful Mrs. Wen.”

“You’re welcome. It’s no problem.”

Shao Cixin walked toward the door of the study with a brilliant smile. “I’ll go take a shower first.”

“Okay—Wait, Cixin.” Wen Zhihan suddenly called for her.

Shao Cixin immediately stopped and turned around. “What’s wrong?”

Wen Zhihan said, “I need you to find the time to accompany me home for two days.”

Shao Cixin: “?”

Wen Zhihan explained, “It’s at my parents’ request.”

Shao Cixin blinked, her mind turning. She quickly came to a conclusion and asked, “Are they going traveling again?”

Wen Xingyun and his wife had always possessed the habit of meeting up with their children before and after they went traveling.

Wen Zhihan couldn’t help but wonder, “How did you know?”

Since they received their marriage certificate, her parents had never traveled far away, nor had they mentioned such a thing in their group chat. So how did Shao Cixin know?

Could it be that her parents had already told Shao Cixin in advance?

Shao Cixin’s heart sank.

She said quickly, “Of course I know. Your mother told me a long time ago that this is one of their traditions.”

Wen Zhihan nodded and didn’t press further.

Shao Cixin had always been a sweet girl who was loved by Wen Zhihan’s parents. It was normal for the Wen matriarch and patriarch to talk to her about anything and everything.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll just go take a shower first?”

“Okay, go ahead.”

“En.”

Shao Cixin turned around and breathed a sigh of relief.

—So close.

Wen Zhihan watched her leave.

As soon as Shao Cixin left, Wen Zhihan’s phone began ringing.

Wen Zhihan took out her phone and saw the two characters on the call screen—Wen Yu.

What was she calling for?

With a mind full of suspicion, Wen Zhihan casually answered the phone while walking onto the balcony, “What’s the matter?”

“Wen Zhihan.”

Wen Yu headed straight to the point, not beating around the bush.

“Do you like Cixin?”

“…”

Wen Zhihan held her phone and stared at the thick ink-black night sky with heavy eyes.

She didn’t say yes, but she didn’t deny it either.

Wen Yu didn’t receive a response.

The other end of the line was eerily quiet.

But she vaguely felt that the answer had already surfaced.

“You don’t have to hide it from me. I can see that you like her. So tell me, from the beginning why did you—did you always plan on letting me marry her?”

Without thinking much, she directly asked the most puzzling question: “If you like Cixin, why did you want me to marry her in the first place?

“Are you crazy?”

“Yes.”

The sudden answer broke the silence on the other end.

The question and answer were both unexpected.

Wen Yu couldn’t help but freeze in place.

Wen Zhihan looked at the sky. Her fingers had turned white from how tightly she was holding her phone, and her eyes were as cold as the stars.

The reason why she proposed the marriage was simple—it was for Shao Cixin.

She originally thought that Wen Yu and Shao Cixin were in love.

She thought that Wen Yu would at least treat Shao Cixin well, that it would be the best way to fulfill their love, and that Shao Cixin could finally achieve the happiness she wanted.

But the results?

She remembered Shao Cixin’s expression when she sat before Wen Zhihan and said with lowered eyes, “She doesn’t love me.” She remembered when Shao Cixin admitted to herself that she was unhappy after drinking with Wen Yu. She remembered…she simply couldn’t bear to think about it anymore.

Just knowing that Shao Cixin was so hurt by Wen Yu’s actions that she no longer wanted to risk giving her heart to another person made Wen Zhihan feel like a coil was tightening around her own heart.

“I thought you just looked useless, but I didn’t expect you to really be useless.”

A chill rose in Wen Zhihan’s eyes.

“Wen Yu, I am indeed crazy for overestimating you.”

After saying this line, Wen Zhihan hung up the phone.

She was afraid that if she kept talking, she would be tempted to do something the next time she saw Wen Yu.

—She had never been a good-tempered goddess to begin with.

Wen Yu: “???”

Faced with a sudden attack on her person, Wen Yu became confused and angry.

What did she say? What did she do?

Why was Wen Zhihan suddenly scolding her!

But at this moment, Tian Jiahe called her again.

Looking at this name, Wen Yu remembered her unhappy marriage from their past life, the incident of accidentally being pushed down the stairs, and all the other unpleasant events which surfaced with her emotions.

She immediately frowned, answered the phone, and said with indignation, “Don’t bother me again!”

Then she viciously hung up the phone.

After being humiliated by Wen Zhihan’s scolding and then disturbed by Tian Jiahe’s phone call, she was so angry that she wanted to explode!

On the other side, Tian Jiahe looked at her call history with disbelief on her face.

Wen Yu hung the phone up on her?

Wen Yu yelled at her?

How could Wen Yu do this to her?!

No, Tian Jiahe must find her and ask for clarification!

The author (热到昏厥) has something to say:

The solution to Wen Yu is underway.

I just watched Andhadhun[2] and I liked the BGM at the end of the credits, but the original soundtrack didn’t have it, which was sad…

But this movie is really great, I recommend it to everyone!

[1] This is a direct translation of a Chinese folk saying. In ancient times, doctors usually carried gourds of medicine on their backs, and normal people couldn’t figure out what kind of medicine was in the gourd, hence the saying “葫芦里到底卖的什么药” (“what kind of medicine is sold in this gourd?”). In the modern day, it is used to express confusion when someone doesn’t know what the other party’s true intentions are (e.g. what they’re going to do/planning to do, etc.). So here Wen Yu is expressing her confusion about Wen Zhihan’s intentions/actions.

[2] An award-winning 2018 Bollywood black-comedy crime thriller.
