Chapter 69 – Don’t Bother Me Again

Wen Yu was stunned in place, speechless.

The impact of the hickeys was unprecedented, and impossible to refute.

Especially since these kiss marks were left by Wen Zhihan…

They were really together…

How did this happen?

Weren’t they fake?

The person Shao Cixin liked was obviously her!

“You…”

Wen Yu looked at the calm figure before her in disbelief and hesitated to speak.

“Do you really like Wen Zhihan?’

This time, Shao Cixin answered frankly and confidently, “Yes, I really like her.”

Shao Cixin now felt ridiculous looking at this person she once liked so much, and she tried her best to crush Wen Yu’s unwarranted self-confidence.

“Wen Yu, if I didn’t like her, then why would I marry her?

“If I didn’t like her, then why would I go on a couples’ variety show with her? If I didn’t like her, then why would I kiss her or sleep with her?

“The facts are before your eyes. Wake up, Wen Yu, I am in love with Zhihan. We are happy and fortunate, and I have long forgotten who you are.

“If you weren’t from the Wen family, I wouldn’t even bother looking at you!”

No matter what her relationship with Wen Zhihan was in the past, she had it all settled now.

In front of everyone, she blatantly liked Wen Zhihan. It was just that she hadn’t dared to admit it to the person herself.

But what if she didn’t dare to admit it?

This did not prevent her from detesting Wen Yu, her disgusting ex-girlfriend.

People say love the house, love the bird[1], but sorry, Shao Cixin couldn’t do it.

Wen Yu and Wen Zhihan were as different as the earth and the sky. To compare mud with the vast blue shining above was simply an insult to the sky.

Even if Wen Yu was reborn a hundred times, she still wouldn’t be as good as one of Wen Zhihan’s fingers—no, not even as good as one of her fingernails!

Wen Yu’s face was full of astonishment.

She couldn’t understand how things got to this point.

Clearly, if the events had just followed their original path, Wen Yu would still be the person Shao Cixin loved most, and Shao Cixin would marry her and start a family with her.

Why?

Why did Wen Zhihan interfere?

Why did Shao Cixin fall in love so easily?

It shouldn’t have gone this way!

Shao Cixin watched Wen Yu’s expression change, and she found it laughable, but she didn’t bother to respond.

She gathered her things, stood up, and warned for the last time, “I have made it clear to you. From now on, we go our separate ways. Don’t bother me again. Otherwise, don’t blame me for having a falling out with you.”

After saying this, Shao Cixin lifted her feet to leave.

At this moment, Wen Yu reached out and grabbed her wrist.

“Don’t leave. Shao Cixin, don’t leave…”

Shao Cixin glanced at Wen Yu’s hand and suddenly felt like she was witnessing a familiar scene.

It was just that the disgraced person had changed from Tian Jiahe to Wen Yu.

Shao Cixin pulled her hand away and said coldly, “Don’t touch me, I’m your sister-in-law.”

“So what if you’re my sister-in-law?” Wen Yu stared at Shao Cixin, unwilling to give up. “You are still my ex, and you still liked me!”

Bright light fell on the ends of Shao Cixin’s eyes, reflecting the mockery in her gaze.

“Ex?

“Tian Jiahe is also your ex. You also liked her. How come I saw you pushing away her hand last time?”

Wen Yu suddenly became speechless.

She never expected that Shao Cixin would see her fight with Tian Jiahe…

Just as she was about to open her mouth and respond, Shao Cixin beat her to it, “Oh, and after dinner, I heard you yelling at this person to stop bothering you.

“It’s amazing that you, Wen Yu, actually hate others bothering you. I thought you liked the feeling of being bothered? Otherwise, why would you keep bothering me?

“Could this be what’s known as a ‘double-standard?’ Sister-in-law.”

Faced with Shao Cixin’s aggressive questioning, Wen Yu’s brows furrowed more and more.

The person in front of her was no longer her obedient wife who loved her to death.

Shao Cixin had changed a lot. Wen Yu didn’t know if this was Shao Cixin’s true nature or if she had been instigated by others, but it was obvious that she hated Wen Yu with all her heart.

Otherwise, how could someone who loved her abruptly fall in love with another person?

Could it be that Shao Cixin was also reborn?

But how could something as strange and mysterious as rebirth be dealt out like a wholesale product?

The reason why people desired luck was because it represented a tiny probability of one in a billion, something that could be encountered but not sought out.

Shao Cixin turned and left. But after taking just two steps, she heard Wen Yu’s gloomy voice from behind. “Is it Wen Zhihan?”

Wen Yu suddenly mentioned the name that was at the forefront of Shao Cixin’s mind, and Shao Cixin couldn’t help but stop.

She looked back at Wen Yu.

Wen Yu’s eyes were like nails piercing Shao Cixin’s face, trying to find an answer in her eyes.

“Was it Wen Zhihan who’s been causing problems in our relationship? Did she make you hate me? Did she say something to you?

“She and I have never got along. Is she using you to take revenge on me?

“I told you before. She is a despicable person!”

Shao Cixin’s eyes darkened, and a ball of anger erupted in her heart.

To this day, this woman didn’t feel that she was at fault, and she even went out of her way to pin the blame on others.

In their previous life, they fell in love and got married, and Wen Yu said it was just to help Shao Cixin realize her dream.

In this life, they became sisters-in-law, and she said it was because of her sister’s scheming.

She stubbornly believed that because the person she loved didn’t love her back, this person must have been influenced by someone else with bad intentions.

—In her heart, everyone in the world should love Wen Yu!

Shao Cixin clenched her fingers into fists, her eyes burning.

The most hateful thing about Wen Yu was that she said something bad about Wen Zhihan and slandered her name.

Shao Cixin turned around and walked back.

Pa–!

A slap fell on Wen Yu’s face.

Wen Yu was stunned, and her cheeks burned.

Pa–!

Another slap landed.

Wen Yu hadn’t even recovered from the first blow.

Shao Cixin’s eyes were dark, and the cold light reflecting in her eyes was so chilly that she resembled a demon who crawled up from hell.

“Did you wake up?”

Wen Yu held her face in disbelief.

She looked at Shao Cixin in astonishment and slowly said, “You hit me…”

“Yes, I hit you.”

Shao Cixin set down her binder and rubbed her wrist, her expression serene. “Even if your mother hasn’t beaten you, I will beat you today. You should treat it like a lesson from your mother so that you learn something—you, a beast who doesn’t know right from wrong.”

Wen Yu said, “…You’re scolding me!”

Shao Cixin glared at Wen Yu with daggers in her eyes. “What’s wrong with scolding you? Can’t I scold you?”

Wen Yu covered her face, which hurt badly, and she was still in a daze, her heart racing.

She couldn’t believe what just happened.

Shao Cixin actually hit her. Shao Cixin actually physically hit her!

“How could you become like this?!” Wen Yu suddenly became angry, her voice grim.

Shao Cixin sneered. “How could I become like this? Isn’t it thanks to you?”

She was too lazy to put up an act anymore. She tore off her disguise, unfolded her trump card, and looked at Wen Yu with crooked eyes. She said line by line—

“You deceived me emotionally, you were still in contact with your ex after we got married, and you cheated on me with her! You didn’t know what you did wrong, and you even said you were…what, helping me realize my dream? And now you’re going so far as to slander Zhihan’s character!

“Who can bear this?!

“Wen Yu, tell me, how can someone like you exist in this world?”

Wen Yu was completely dumbfounded by this series of shocking reveals.

“You…what did you just say?”

Shao Cixin smiled.

Under the light, her beautiful eyes glowed with a chilling coldness.

“What a coincidence, I’ve also been reborn.”

The words fell to the ground lightly, but they were also as heavy as a thousand pounds. They exploded in Wen Yu’s ears, shaking her heart so much that she couldn’t calm down for a long time.

Her eyes suddenly widened and thousands of words collided with each other inside her chest. She couldn’t piece together a complete sentence for a long time.

“You…you actually…”

Shao Cixin was actually reborn!

It turned out that she was not the only one who had been reborn!

“That’s right. Didn’t expect that, did you?” Shao Cixin raised her eyebrows.

Wasn’t it just rebirth?

They were both reborn, so who could think they had the right to position themselves higher than the other? Just because they were reborn, who would believe they could manipulate the overall situation and obtain what did not belong to them?

Shao Cixin was not afraid of Wen Yu telling others.

Such an unscientific thing, who would believe it?

Even if someone believed it, Wen Yu would be the one who suffered.

With all the accounts of Wen Yu cheating and deceiving people on the table, how could the Shao family let her go?

If it weren’t for Wen Zhihan, Shao Heng would not unconditionally forgive the Wen family for everything they did.

A favor was a favor, a debt was a debt.

Furthermore, why should Wen Zhihan’s kindness be used to pay off Wen Yu’s debts? Have you asked Wen Zhihan?

When her thoughts returned to reality, Shao Cixin took a step in Wen Yu’s direction.

“My dear ex-wife, I wonder if you’ve been doing well after my death.

“Did you enjoy the food? Did you have a good time? Did you live happily with your second wife?

“Oh, right.”

Shao Cixin suddenly stopped and gently placed her fingers on Wen Yu’s shoulders. She cast her eyes, which were as sharp as razors, onto Wen Yu’s face.

“On the night I died…Were you and your true love Tian Jiahe able to sleep well together?”

Wen Yu froze in place. Her throat suddenly became dry, and she didn’t dare to speak at all.

She should have been happy that Shao Cixin had regained her life, but she couldn’t even smile.

Chills spread all over her body, crawling down her scalp into her spine, and all her limbs felt cold.

Thinking back to her previous life, Wen Yu suddenly felt that she had been haunted by a lingering soul day and night.

Wen Yu never imagined that she would feel so horrified to meet her wife who had been resurrected from the dead.

“Cixin, it was the drunk driver’s fault that you had a car accident. He has been punished by the law…” Wen Yu couldn’t help but defend herself.

The five fingers on her shoulder suddenly moved and patted her twice.

Wen Yu shut her mouth.

“I know, I know. I am also very happy to hear about the driver’s results after my death. I give my thanks to the legal system.”

Then Shao Cixin changed the topic. The corner of her eyes reddened with hatred, and her voice carried a hint of grievance.

“But what does it have to do with me hating you?

“You deceived and humiliated my feelings, and you were unfaithful in our marriage. Doesn’t this remain true?

“What did I do wrong that my sincerity should be violated by someone like you?!”

Wen Yu looked into Shao Cixin’s reddened eyes and only then realized how strong Shao Cixin’s hatred for her was. She began comprehending how absurdly wrong she had been.

“Cixin, I…”

“Shut up! You don’t deserve to call me that!”

“…”

Wen Yu knew she was wrong, and she no longer had the arrogance she possessed at the beginning of their conversation. She lowered her head with a pitiful expression. “I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I know I was wrong.

“I was reborn just to make it up to you and cherish you. Really, believe me, and let’s start over, okay?”

Shao Cixin didn’t believe in Wen Yu’s act—fake or otherwise—anymore, and she looked at her with sadness.

“Why did it take another life to realize how to cherish someone?

“Why didn’t you know how to cherish someone when you had them? Why do you know pain only when you lose them?

“Why do you say you have to start over, and I have to start over with you?

“Wen Yu, this world does not revolve around you alone.”

Shao Cixin found Wen Yu ridiculous and pathetic.

The person in front of her used to be someone she loved so much, and now that person had become someone she despised very much.

She gave so much of herself without a single complaint for so long, and she actually had to wait until her own death to be repaid with a change of mind from the other party.

Oh, wait, it was not her death that made Wen Yu change her mind, but the fact that Tian Jiahe was “lacking.”

It was so ridiculous. She had liked Wen Yu for so long and worked so hard for so long, and all her love and effort had been turned into a joke.

“Wen Yu, I really regret all of it…” Shao Cixin said with a self-deprecating smile. “Why did I fall in love with you instead of Zhihan?”

If she liked Wen Zhihan, she wouldn’t have been deceived or hurt. She wouldn’t have given everything only to be humiliated.

The worst that could result from liking Wen Zhihan was just a rejection…

Maybe this was the choice that the heavens wanted her to see when they granted her a second chance.

She withdrew her gaze from Wen Yu and turned to leave.

She would never follow in the footsteps of the person in front of her ever again.

Wen Yu didn’t want to give up, and there was still a stubborn obsession rooted in her heart.

Shouldn’t they make peace with each other and start over?

Otherwise, what was all of it for?

“Don’t go!”

Wen Yu grabbed Shao Cixin’s hand again, her eyes full of misery and desperation.

“Cixin, can you give me another chance?

“I have never begged you. This is the first time I’m begging you. Please forgive me and give me another chance to love you.

“If not for each other, what was the point of our rebirth?”

Shao Cixin found Wen Yu’s argument to be laughable.

For each other?

Despite the other person’s feelings, you still insisted on bothering them for your own sake?

Sure enough, in the end, all Wen Yu loved was herself.

“You’re wrong.”

Shao Cixin looked back, raising the corners of her lips to reveal an emotionless smile.

“I was reborn to stay away from you, to live a better life, and to continue my unfinished journey.”

She stepped closer to Wen Yu, and her cold fingertips poked Wen Yu’s shoulder again and again, like a sharp knife repeatedly piercing through her heart.

“And the meaning of your rebirth is to pay the price of arrogance from your previous life.

“Everyone whose feelings you’ve trampled on will leave you, and the only people left around you will be those with ulterior motives.

“You will never get what you want, and you will never find love. You can only live with your guilt for the rest of your life, and you won’t ever have my forgiveness.

“Do you understand? My. Dear. Sister. In. Law.”

Wen Yu stumbled back step by step and finally fell dumbly onto the sofa.

Her heart hurt. It was a pain worse than being slapped twice. It felt like someone was using a knife to cut out a piece of her flesh. It was so searing that she was close to suffocating.

Wen Yu’s last inch of persistence was completely crushed by the determination in Shao Cixin’s eyes. She could never expect to hear Shao Cixin say “It doesn’t matter[2]” for the rest of her life.

“Stop bothering me.

“I don’t want to see you again.”

After saying these words, Shao Cixin picked up her things and left without looking back.

Wen Yu raised her head in a daze, watching helplessly as the distance between herself and Shao Cixin grew farther and farther apart.

The person who once ran towards her with a smile was now walking away from her, and she would never belong to her again.

It was Wen Yu who destroyed their relationship with her own hands, it was Wen Yu who pushed Shao Cixin away, and it was Wen Yu who hurt her.

What a stupid thing she had done…

The person in her sight became blurry, and her tears fell uncontrollably.

She covered her face, letting the tears drop to the ground.

Her regrets surged forward, submerging her in this long night.

The author (热到昏厥) has something to say:

Even if you’ve changed, it’s too late.

[1]“爱屋及乌” (love the house, love the bird) is the Chinese equivalent of the English “love me, love my dog.” It refers to how, when you love a person, you will also love the crows perching on their home, and it is a metaphor for how you will care about the people or things related to the person you love.

[2] The Chinese way of saying “It’s okay” is “没关系” (literally “It doesn’t matter”), which is heartbreaking when you consider Shao Cixin’s relationship with Wen Yu.

Well now I know what to write but I can’t edit that comment anymore since I’m not logged in, just a guest… anyways

If only Wen Zhihan saw all that so that they can finally get together. That was such a raw outburst, there is no way she could think “Oh she must be acting!” Again if she saw that, right?

This is a really cathartic scene, and I love the way the scene critiques the typical plotline of “I didn’t cherish you in my last life but I’ll do better this time”
