Jin Hanshuang sat by the window in her rocking chair, watching the rain drizzle outside.
Her thoughts unconsciously drifted to Lu Yunshu.
Has that kid made it home yet…
Then her phone rang—it was Lu Yunshu.
Jin Hanshuang raised an eyebrow.
What’s this? Speak of the devil. Does Lu Yunshu have some kind of sixth sense?
She answered the call. “Hello?”
On the other side, Lu Yunshu repeated, “Hello.”
Jin Hanshuang smiled. “What’s that, is there a parrot on the phone?”
Lu Yunshu’s voice carried a hint of laughter. “There is now.”
“Huh? But it’s gone now?”
“Now.”
“Oh?”
“Oh.”
“Ai-ya!”
“Ai-ya.”
“Stop it.”
“Okay.”
Lu Yunshu was so good at controlling herself.
Jin Hanshuang’s smile widened.
Where did this childish little puppy come from!
“What are you calling for?” she asked.
Lu Yunshu said, “I’m home.”
“Okay.”
The call went quiet again. In the background, Jin Hanshuang could hear the rustle of movements and the soft clink of keys being set on a table.
On the other side, Lu Yunshu contemplated what to say. She needed to seize the moment before Jin Hanshuang decided to hang up on her. After all, she’d work so hard to find a legitimate reason to call…
She parted her lips to speak.
But Jin Hanshuang’s voice came first, full of regret. “What to do?”
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
“It’s not me, it’s you.”
“Huh?”
Jin Hanshuang reclined in her rocking chair. “Ai-ya, it’s raining. Our President Lu won’t be able to meet her crush today.”
Lu Yunshu chuckled softly. “It’s okay. We can still chat online.”
Jin Hanshuang thought, How optimistic.
Then Jin Hanshuang remembered the way Lu Yunshu had complimented her before leaving, how Lu Yunshu’s hand had tucked in Jin Hanshuang’s hair like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Well, with such good looks and charm, this kid doesn’t even need to be optimistic.
“Yunshu, you don’t need to learn anything from me. You’ve already mastered it.”
“Mastered what?”
Lu Yunshu didn’t understand.
Jin Hanshuang thought, Sure enough.
This kid has no idea just how capable she is.
Jin Hanshuang set down her phone and put Lu Yunshu on speaker. As she swayed gently in her rocking chair, she said slowly, “You don’t need to learn anything. Just let her see you.”
“See me?”
“Yes, see you. See your looks, your personality, your authenticity—everything about you. This way, she will naturally feel moved.”
By the exceptional, serious, gentle, and considerate Lu Yunshu—and by the cute and naive Lu Yunshu. Her Lu Yunshu was too good. Jin Hanshuang couldn’t’ think of any reason for anyone to reject someone so lovely.
Then, Lu Yunshu’s voice fell in her ears. “Like how you see me?”
For a moment, Jin Hanshuang was speechless. Lu Yunshu’s dead serious tone painted a vivid image in Jin Hanshuang’s mind—Lu Yunshu, looking with her gentle but intense gaze.
What a strange atmosphere.
It felt like…flirting. How could this be?
“Lu Yunshu, you can’t talk to jiejie like that.”
“Like what?”
Lu Yunshu sounded innocent and sincere.
“…”
Hearing Lu Yunshu’s reaction, Jin Hanshuang was ashamed by her dirty thoughts. Lu Yunshu must not even realize what she was doing.
She decided not to answer the question.
“Like what?” Lu Yunshu asked again, curious.
“…”
“Why isn’t Hanshuang speaking?”
“…”
“Jiejie, teach me.”
“Tsk.” Jin Hanshuang finally spoke. “You little rascal, you…”
“You what?”
The hint of laughter in Lu Yunshu’s voice drifted through the phone and tickled Jin Hanshuang’s ears.
Jin Hanshuang picked up the phone, as if she wanted to reach through and pinch Lu Yunshu’s face. “You’re really something else.”
Lu Yunshu was turning bolder than her.
“Thank you Hanshuang for the compliment.”
Now she is being modest.
Jin Hanshuang sat up. “Alright. I’m tired. I’m going to take a nap. You should go find your sweetheart. Good luck, incredible President Lu.”
The incredible President Lu: “Alright, sleep well.”
As soon as the call ended, Lu Yunshu replayed the conversation in her mind.
It felt like flirting, very ambiguous—she was making progress.
Like her crush finally seeing her for who she was.
Even though she was pursuing her sweetheart, Lu Yunshu did not neglect her career. But in her line of work, you can’t avoid running into people you don’t want to see.
One night, Lu Yunshu put on her sunglasses and leisurely stepped out from the backseat of her car into the underground parking lot. As she looked up, she saw her lifelong nemesis walking out from the other side, accompanied by a secretary.
Enemies really do cross paths easily.
The moment Lu Yunshu saw Shen Wenxin’s face, a flurry of thoughts flooded her mind.
For example, Shen Wenxin was Jin Hanshuang’s stepmother.
And they had a surprisingly close relationship.
In other words, if Lu Yunshu wanted to pursue Jin Hanshuang, she would first have to get past Shen Wenxin.
Past Shen Wenxin…
Lu Yunshu unconsciously narrowed her eyes. Behind her lenses, her gaze turned sharp and calculating as she began to size up her nemesis.
Across the parking lot, Shen Wenxin suddenly stopped in her tracks, turning her head to look straight at Lu Yunshu. Clearly, she’d noticed Lu Yunshu’s presence as well.
Without any reaction, Shen Wenxin averted her gaze and continued walking as if Lu Yunshu didn’t exist.
“Shen Wenxin.”
The sound of her name disturbed the sanctity of the parking lot.
Shen Wenxin stopped in her steps.
She turned toward the source of the voice and responded with casual indifference, “What?”
Exactly like they were in school.
Whenever one called the other’s name, this was always the response.
Casual and rude—because who should be polite to someone they hate!
Their secretaries exchanged glances, then looked at their bosses, completely baffled by the situation. Something was wrong—weren’t they supposed to turn away the moment they saw each other?
Shen Wenxin also thought Lu Yunshu was acting strange.
But she didn’t care.
Even if the sky were falling, as long as it landed on Lu Yunshu, it had nothing to do with her.
“If you have something to say, spit it out. My time is valuable.”
Lu Yunshu remained silent.
After a few seconds, she finally said, “Nothing. You go ahead.”
Then she left. She just left—without even looking back.
Lu Yunshu wasn’t at the stage where she needed to get past Shen Wenxin yet. She couldn’t bring herself to say any conciliatory words and make peace—not when she was staring at Shen Wenxin’s stupid face.
Shen Wenxin: “…?”
She stared at Lu Yunshu’s back, her expression full of confusion.
Did Lu Yunshu just call her out, only to send her off?
She turned to her secretary, speechless.
“Is she crazy?”
