Chapter 64 (Extra) – Returning Home

It was the one-year anniversary of Jin Hanshuang and Lu Yunshu’s relationship.

They spent a ceremonious and sentimental day together.

They went out for dinner, exchanged gifts, and shared a small cake.

Jin Hanshuang placed the flowers in a vase at home for display.

They made good use of the cake, too.

This time, President Lu was in charge of eating the cake.

She was clever and quick to learn. She even discovered a new way of eating cake.

After making love to each other, they lay in bed.

Their eyes met.

Jin Hanshuang gently caressed her lover’s face.

Lu Yunshu’s mature features were reflected in her eyes.

Her lover’s kisses fell into her palm, then pressed against her wrist.

So tender.

Jin Hanshuang felt sentimental. “Time goes by so fast, and the years have passed in the blink of an eye. When I first met you, you were only in your third year of high school…”

Third year, a time of youth and innocence.

Back then, Lu Yunshu had been a well-behaved child who didn’t know how to tease her jiejie.

And now, that shy little girl was all grown up.

She became a mature adult and her lover.

Lu Yunshu’s lips curved. “How wonderful that we’ve known each other for so long.”

She had her own way of finding happiness.

Hearing this, Jin Hanshuang also smiled.

She leaned in and kissed Lu Yunshu’s lips. “Yes, it’s really wonderful~”

She also loved Lu Yunshu’s way of seeing the world.

On a whim, Jin Hanshuang said, “We should go back sometime.”

She clarified, “To the neighborhood where you lived for your third year of high school. Let’s take a look around. I haven’t been back in so long.”

The time Lu Yunshu and Shen Wenxin spent studying was precious to her, too.

Now that she was no longer under Shen Minghai’s watchful eye, she finally had a sense of ease and freedom.

Lu Yunshu said, “Okay.”

She added, “If you miss living there, we can stay there for a while too.”

They hadn’t sold the apartment. It was still under Lu Yunshu’s name, so they could go back and live there whenever they wanted.

Jin Hanshuang smiled and said okay.

Then, after a moment, she changed her mind.

She frowned, then sighed. “But that place is too far from Shengtian. It’d be inconvenient for you to commute to the company every day, so we’d better not go.”

Lu Yunshu couldn’t help but laugh.

Her wife was still thinking about her first.

She wrapped her arms around Jin Hanshuang and absently ran her fingers through her long hair. “Let’s stay over for the weekend. I have this weekend off, and if something comes up, I can work from home if I need to.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Then let’s go back this weekend!”

They happily arranged another item in their itinerary.

Jin Hanshuang looked up, eyes bright in delight.

Lu Yunshu loved Jin Hanshuang’s reaction, she loved it very much.

Suddenly, she said, “Hanshuang, I’m hungry.”

Jin Hanshuang instinctively asked, “What do you want to eat?”

Lu Yunshu met her gaze, her lips curling.

She pulled Jin Hanshuang closer, and a kiss followed.

On Jin Hanshuang’s lips, on the tip of her ear, on her shoulders.

“…”

Lu Yunshu bit lightly at Jin Hanshuang’s shoulder, then kissed it.

Her slender hands traced slowly downward along Jin Hanshuang’s pale, smooth skin.

Everything was said without words.

Jin Hanshuang felt it and reacted.

She smiled and kissed Lu Yunshu.

“You’re so naughty, Lu Yunshu~”

“No matter how bad I am, Jin Hanshuang still likes me.”

With laughter in her eyes, Lu Yunshu pressed Jin Hanshuang down beneath her.

Desire burned in her stomach, and her tone changed.

Their breaths quickened together.

Lingering summer nights are always particularly hot, especially passionate and intoxicating.

That weekend, the two of them returned to their old neighborhood.

Because a caretaker regularly came over to clean the place, the apartment was spotless and ready for them to move in at any time.

Xiao Ba came along too—

—to see where her moms had first met.

—to see where Mother Yunshu had spent countless days and nights preparing for her college entrance exams.

It was Jin Hanshuang’s first time inside Lu Yunshu’s old home.

Back then, the patriarchs of both families had still been alive, so the two of them didn’t have the chance to know each other well. Visiting one another’s homes was never on the table.

The furnishings in the house were standard, with everything placed where it belonged. Nothing was ostentatious. It was very comfortable.

From the window, Jin Hanshuang could still see the big tree at the center of the apartment complex, its green crown spread like a lush umbrella over the yard.

Jin Hanshuang went to look at Lu Yunshu’s room.

There were a bookshelf and a desk, with another window right above it.

She could almost picture Lu Yunshu sitting there wearing her plain black glasses and studying quietly, not yet the flirtatious woman she was today.

Jin Hanshuang felt as if she had traveled back in time.

Though it was her first time here, that old sense of familiarity lingered everywhere.

Here, and in the person beside her.

She brushed her fingers across the desk and said softly, “So this is where my wife used to sit and study…and where she got into University A.”

Lu Yunshu wrapped her arms around Jin Hanshuang’s waist and said softly, “Isn’t your wife amazing?”

Jin Hanshuang smiled at her. “Of course. Anyone who gets into University A is impressive.”

She stroked Lu Yunshu’s face.

Her wife was amazing.

Her daughter was amazing too.

Xiao Ba wagged her tail by their feet.

Jin Hanshuang bent down and picked Xiao Ba up.

She held Lu Yunshu’s hand and led her to bed.

They talked about the past, the present, and every little detail of their lives.

Time, in that moment, felt quiet and tender.

Through the open window, a cool breeze flowed freely inside.

It brushed over the empty desk and carried away the heat lingering in the room.

Summer itself seemed to drift inside too.

The window framed a patch of blue sky, the hum of cicadas, and the laughter of children running and playing outside.

The world was both noisy and quiet.

Xiao Ba soon fell asleep curled up beside them.

Soon, Jin Hanshuang and Lu Yunshu drifted off too.

Perhaps it was just too comfortable, or perhaps the breeze had carried inside the sleepiness of summer.

When they woke up, the evening sky was washed in sunset colors.

Outside the window, the horizon glowed in hues of rose and gold.

They admired the view for a while, then ordered takeout from a nearby restaurant.

Jin Hanshang and Lu Yunshu had planned to eat out, but they were worried that the restaurants in the area might not allow dogs.

Xiao Ba was still young, and it was her first day in a new environment. Leaving her alone at home simply felt too cruel.

Most of the restaurants from Lu Yunshu’s younger years were still open.

Jin Hanshuang and Lu Yunshu picked a place and placed their order.

When the food arrived, Jin Hanshuang went downstairs to pick it up.

Lu Yunshu stayed inside to prepare Xiao Ba’s dinner.

The moment she took out a can of dog food, Xiao Ba’s tail began wagging.

She barked, “Woof!”

Lu Yunshu poured the food into Xiao Ba’s bowl.

Then she looked down at her. “Don’t bark so loud.”

Xiao Ba tilted her head.

She barked again, then grinned.

She didn’t understand a thing, but she was incredibly cheerful.

Lu Yunshu crouched down and patiently said, “You have to bark more quietly.”

“Woof!”

Lu Yunshu lowered her voice and repeated, “Quietly.”

Xiao Ba stared at her.

After a moment, the little dog let out a soft, “Woof~”

Lu Yunshu patted her head with satisfaction. “Good girl. So smart.”

She placed the bowl in front of Xiao Ba. “Eat.”

Xiao Ba buried her face in the bowl.

Lu Yunshu stayed crouched near the ground, watching the puppy eat her dinner.

The little puppy was thoroughly enjoying her food.

After seeing Xiao Ba’s soft ears twitch every now and then, Lu Yunshu couldn’t resist reaching out to stroke them.

A little while later, Lu Yunshu and Jin Hanshuang’s food arrived too.

They finally tasted the familiar flavors of their old homes.

It was still as delicious as ever.

After finishing their food, they went outside and strolled down the streets they remembered so well.

Xiao Ba came with them.

More than ten years had passed.

Some things were changed, others weren’t.

The ice cream seller and the small convenience store Jin Hanshuang used to frequent were both still open.

Jin Hanshuang pointed to the convenience store and said, “Do you remember the candy I gave you back then? I bought it right here.”

Lu Yunshu turned to consider the brightly lit shop. “Wait here for me.”

“?”

Jin Hanshuang blinked in confusion as she watched Lu Yunshu run into the store.

After a while, Lu Yunshu came out with two lollipops.

Jin Hanshuang was stunned.

She watched as Lu Yunshu walked—no, ran—toward her.

Lu Yunshu held one lollipop out to her.

“Orange flavor,” Lu Yunshu said, answering Jin Hanshuang’s earlier question.

Then she added softly, “This time, it’s my treat.”

Jin Hanshuang lowered her eyes to the lollipop resting in Lu Yunshu’s palm.

After so many years, she could no longer remember what flavor of lollipop she’d given Lu Yunshu.

But Lu Yunshu still remembered—not only remember, but remember perfectly.

All their shared memories had been carefully collected in her mind.

Jin Hanshuang smiled faintly.

She took the lollipop, unwrapped it, and put it in her mouth.

“So sweet. It still tastes the same.”

Nothing has changed.

Except now, there was more love—

—a love that would accompany them for a long time.

They held each other’s hands over Xiao Ba’s leash and walked together under the warm orange streetlights. Strangers came and went around them, each with their own happiness.

When they reached the stretch of road where the streetlight had once been broken, Lu Yunshu suddenly tightened her grip on Jin Hanshuang’s hand, making her look over.

Lu Yunshu said pitifully, “Jiejie, I’m afraid of the dark.”

Jin Hanshuang blinked.

What could she do if her meimei was afraid of the dark?

Well, she had no choice but to hold her hand tightly, smiling and saying, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to protect you.”

The two of them walked on, laughing.

Then Jin Hanshuang asked, “So this time, what secret should I help you keep?”

If they were going to relive their past, then they might as well relive it a bit more.

Lu Yunshu thought about it for a moment.

After a long while, she finally said, “Mm, I have a secret.”

Jin Hanshuang looked over curiously,

Lu Yunshu said, “I ate Xiao Ba’s dog food.”

Jin Hanshuang: “?”

Lu Yunshu continued, “It looked so delicious, so I was curious about what it would taste like.”

As she spoke out loud, Lu Yunshu couldn’t help laughing at herself and shook her head. “It wasn’t good.”

Jin Hanshuang burst out laughing. “Does that count as a secret?”

“I think so. You have to keep it a secret for the sake of President Lu’s image.”

“Alright, alright,” Jin Hanshuang said. “Then in exchange, I’ll tell you a secret too.”

Lu Yunshu looked over curiously.

Jin Hanshuang’s eyes gleamed with laughter. “I’ve eaten it too.”

The two of them exchanged glances and laughed softly.

Xiao Ba looked from one mother to the other, her tongue out and tail wagging.

It looked like she was trying hard to laugh too.

Smiling, Lu Yunshu bent down and scooped her up.

She and Jin Hanshuang walked down the street with their hands interlaced.

The silver rings on their interlocked hands shone brightly.

The night breeze brushed against their faces.

Above them, the moonlight rustled through the branches.

The direction of the wind dictated the vast expanse of their shared future.

The author (热到昏厥) has something to say:

The—whole—story—is—finished!

Wuwu, I actually feel a little reluctant now that I’ve written to this point. QAQ

This was the original ending for the main story, but as I was writing, I realized that the current ending fits the main story just fine, so I moved this ending to the extras to conclude the whole story.

This is a simple, lighthearted, and sweet story. I really loved it, and I hope it brought you some enjoyment and even a little bit of happiness.

I’ve thought of a background song to recommend for you: “nop” by Chen Yuelong

I wrote this chapter while listening to this instrumental track. It’s such a gentle song, and it makes me reluctant to leave the main characters behind.

Thank you for reading this far, thank you for supporting the official release, and thank you to everyone who left comments and feedback. It’s so nice to have people reading my writing. =v=~
